本系列首創了我國特色的英語專業內容與語言融合的課程體系，開發了適合英語專業的內容與語言融合的課程，系列以英語為媒介比較系統地教授專業內容，全面發展學生的語言技能。課程設置包括美國歷史文化、美國自然人文地理、英國歷史文化、英國社會文化、英國自然人文地理、歐洲文化、希臘羅馬神話、綜合英語、英語短篇小說等共計30種。本書分為15個單元，以英國社會文化為主線，涉及英國人的性格、價值觀、宗教信仰、學校教育、政治政體、社會福利、生活方式、風俗節日、大眾傳媒、文學藝術、體育競技、音樂欣賞等。每單元的主題內容包括課前熱身、課文正文、課后練習和輔助閱讀四大板塊。
本套教材是國家哲學社會科學項目成果，獲得第六屆guojia級教學成果優秀成果獎、遼寧省兩級教學成果一等獎。
常俊躍，大連外國語大學英語學院院長。主持并完成國家哲學社會科學項目“英語專業基礎階段內容依托式教學改革研究”，主持并正在進行國家社會科學基金項目立項“內容依托教學理論指導下英語專業整體課程體系的改革與實踐研究”。 負責的專業2010年獲guojia級特色專業建設點。
