《高職通用英語》是一套專供高職學(xué)生使用的英語教材。它是采用2000年出版的《學(xué)院英語》開展了兩輪教學(xué)實(shí)踐的基礎(chǔ)上，結(jié)合教育部有關(guān)新的考核要求，重新組織素材編寫而成的。
高職的英語教學(xué)，更為強(qiáng)調(diào)學(xué)生獲得運(yùn)用英語進(jìn)行工作和日常交流的能力。本書作者在這方面做了積極的嘗試，受到了許多高職院校的肯定和歡迎。高職英語教學(xué)的主要特點(diǎn)是強(qiáng)調(diào)“能力為本”，加強(qiáng)口語和聽力訓(xùn)練，努力將聽、說、讀、寫等技能訓(xùn)練有機(jī)結(jié)合，避免把整體性很強(qiáng)的語言學(xué)習(xí)（尤其在基礎(chǔ)階段）人為地分割為互不相干的數(shù)門課程。《高職通用英語》在堅(jiān)持以上特色的基礎(chǔ)上，吸收了教學(xué)和學(xué)生所提的意見，更為注重基本技能訓(xùn)練，在選題和編排方面都有提高，擴(kuò)大了容量，增加了學(xué)生練習(xí)冊(cè)。這套書共有四冊(cè)（預(yù)備級(jí)和一～三冊(cè)），本書為預(yù)備級(jí)，專供入學(xué)時(shí)英語基礎(chǔ)較差的學(xué)生使用。整套書的教學(xué)要求貼近高職學(xué)生參加的全國(guó)高等學(xué)校英語應(yīng)用能力考試水準(zhǔn)。
