本教材縮編自M.F.Spotts,T.E.Shoupand L.E.Hornberger編寫的《Design of Machine Elements》(8fhEdition)。該書內(nèi)容豐富,大部分內(nèi)容適合我國機(jī)械類本科生的教學(xué)要求。原教材共15章,不僅包括典型機(jī)械零部件的設(shè)計方法,而且還包括工程力學(xué)、工程材料、形狀綜合原理和塑料零件的設(shè)計等內(nèi)容。為和我國目前高校機(jī)械基礎(chǔ)課程體系中機(jī)械設(shè)計課程的內(nèi)容相銜接,以便于各類讀者使用,編者對教材進(jìn)行了重新組織和縮編,F(xiàn)包括9章內(nèi)容,包括機(jī)械設(shè)計概論、基本應(yīng)力分析和失效理論、軸的設(shè)計、彈簧、螺栓連接和螺旋傳動、帶傳動、離合器、制動器和鏈傳動、潤滑、滾動軸承、直齒圓柱齒輪、斜齒輪、錐齒輪和蝸桿傳動。從刪減的內(nèi)容看,其內(nèi)容或是與我們的課程關(guān)系不大,或是在其他課程里已經(jīng)學(xué)過。對于原書中豐富的習(xí)題,根據(jù)保留的基本內(nèi)容進(jìn)行了相應(yīng)的刪減。另外,原教材為讀者提供了一些基本的工程力學(xué)計算、典型零部件的設(shè)計程序。為與紙質(zhì)教材相關(guān)內(nèi)容相一致,沒有改變原程序中的模塊編號。本教材可以作為英文或雙語教學(xué)用機(jī)械設(shè)計課程的教材,也可供機(jī)械工程專業(yè)本科生、研究生或其他從事機(jī)械設(shè)計工作的專業(yè)人員參考。
