《英語國家文化》是根據(jù)國家教育部《大學(xué)英語課程教學(xué)要求（試行）》中"大學(xué)英語課程不僅是一門語言基礎(chǔ)知識課程，也是拓寬知識，了解世界文化的素質(zhì)教育課程"的規(guī)定為非英語專業(yè)本科學(xué)生編寫的教程。它能幫助學(xué)生了解英語國家社會、文化方面的基本知識，如政治制度、宗教信仰、教育制度、商業(yè)文化、大眾傳媒、娛樂休閑、家庭與福利等等。在提高學(xué)生英語閱讀能力的同時，培養(yǎng)學(xué)生理解分析各種文化現(xiàn)象的能力，以提高他們的人文素質(zhì)。同時《英語國家文化》還希望幫助學(xué)生通過對中西文化的對比，培養(yǎng)獨立分析問題的能力和養(yǎng)成批判性思維的習(xí)慣。
